аналитическая статья на ББС. анализирует директор бирмингемской школы бизнеса. выдержки: But the director of the Birmingham Business School Jonathan Michie has questioned the viability of the pledge. "The Glazers' takeover is a huge financial risk," said Michie. A Manchester United fan, Michie has returned his Old Trafford season ticket in opposition to the Glazer family's takeover ... судя по настроению меньшинства (судя по голосованию пока это именно меньшинство), для них не существует авторитетов в мире бизнеса, кроме глейзера. а для меня, к примеру - это человек авторитет. "The only way to make cash available for transfers is to increase ticket prices, which, at best, will price many supporters out of the ground, replacing them with more affluent spectators ... а вот и ответ. флаг в руки, бандерлоги! он жаждет ваше бабло и фотоаппараты на ОТ. будете с китайцами сидеть там. "I find it extraordinary that anyone reported Joel Glazer's 'interview' as an interview as such. "This was on the station that he owns, with questions posed by, in effect, one of his own employees and in which, presumably, all the questions and answers were rehearsed previously. "On their entire charm offensive, where the impression was that they had met and talked with absolutely everyone possible, they appear to have managed to avoid meeting a single supporter or coming up against a single independent journalist."

what's happening? Here's what's happening: - IMUSA and the fanzines have today publicly called for a boycott of the CL game in August - it is an individual choice whether you participate in this, but I certainly will (well I don't have a ST any more so it's easy) - we will be relaunching SU as a mutual society, 'The Manchester United Supporters Trust', by the end of the month - logos are now being designed for this and for Phoenix - we are still in the throes of liquidating SUSS, which has been painful in the extreme - cheques to those who cashed out will be processed by the end of the month and new share certificates should be on their way from the registrars to those who requested transfers - we are in discussion with a number of financial institutions about the legal, regulatory, financial, structural and IT issues relating to the setting up of the Phoenix Fund - an announcement will be made as soon as we are in a position to do so - we are in the process of changing our organisation from a mainly anti-takeover campaigning group on the inside of the fight against takeover to a structured, professional and commercial entity on the outside, positioning ourselves for a 3-year long campaign to be there when our club comes back on the market - of course we will take hits and it ain't going to be an easy transition - we have a 5 page draft strategy document about to 'go live' covering such issues as organisational strategy, funding, commercial (sponsorship and revenue-raising deals), branding/merchandising, communications/media, recruitment, advertising - that's in addition to the direct action, branch programme, volunteer database, and other critical matters which need to be dealt with yesterday We need people to contribute and get/stay involved, and we will be coming to you all for that - those who are committed to the cause and see this as a long-term war not those who lose heart at the first sign of difficulty. We aren't going to win this in the first few months, it will take years with apparent setbacks and loads of apathy. MU will try to paint us as the small minority, the enemy (they already are doing that). And many fans will walk away from the fight for one reason or another. But be sure that we have to get it right from the start because if we stay United, Glazer will push wavering United fans back into our arms as the seasons roll by with price increases and loopy decisions across the board year-on-year. Be patient. I know we all tend to get disheartened when we lose a battle and see no obvious action plan, but you know it is easy to sit in an armchair and complain when nothing appears to be happening. Things are happening, bigtime, but SU is a bit like a supertanker which takes a mile or several to change direction. The beginning of the season proper will see MUST as a broad-based and dynamic organisation, offering a real long-term alternative to the nightmare that is Glazer. This will be a long and bumpy ride - make sure you're strapped in and ready. |
грустно все это :(
from the Guardian http://football.guardian.co.uk/News_...526100,00.html 'We asked Tampa Tribune columnist Daniel Ruth what Manchester United supporters can expect now that American tycoon and Tampa Bay Buccaneers owner Malcolm Glazer owns their team. This is what he wrote... ' 'Here's what you poor, poor, sad, slap happy fulminating patrons of the Manchester United soccer team have to understand about the franchise's new proprietor, Palm Beach tycoon Malcolm Glazer and his lads. You can threaten to boycott games. Yawn. You can demonstrate in the streets. Sigh. You can burn all the effigies you want. Oh dear. You can protest, whine, pout, shout and hold your breath. Isn't that precious? You can curl up in the mother of all foetal positions and primal scream yourself blue. How nice for you. And Malcolm Glazer and his rug rats still won't care one whit, not an iota, not so much as a passing moment of concern. Indeed, if the elder Glazer owns ManU for the next 20 years he will probably set foot in the old sod about as often as the Argentine Army Falklands War Veterans Association. That's because - altogether now - HE DOESN'T CARE! There is a story former Tampa Mayor Dick Greco often tells about attending a Tampa Bay Buccaneers football game shortly after Glazer bought the team for $190m in 1995. At one point, as a defensive back intercepted a pass and raced into the end zone for a touchdown, Glazer jumped to his feet to cheer on the player only to be gently reminded by Greco that the new owner of the Tampa Bay Bucs was actually rooting for the wrong team. The Bucs are now worth, according to Forbes Magazine, $779m, so apparently not knowing the difference between a blitz and a blintz hardly seems to have been a particular impediment to Malcolm Glazer. To be sure, many ManU fans are wound more tightly than Princess Anne in trying to fathom what the future may hold during the Glazer years. In a sense, Glazer's confusion over which team to root for is understandable. That's largely because you need to think of the National Football League as a sort of mother of all capitalist communes. The value of the Bucs franchise is grounded in a number of generous sweetheart deals. First, the NFL believes in all for one and one for all, equally distributing the league's profits to all 32 teams regardless of performance. And thus, all 32 franchises including the Bucs receive $100m from the NFL before the first down of the first play of the first game of the season commences. In addition, the Bucs play their games in a $162m stadium, for which the Glazers put up not one thin dime of their own money to build. This is a source of some community discontent, since Malcolm Glazer promised to pay for half of the stadium back in 1995, only to eventually renege on the deal. As well, the Bucs receive about $23m-a-year in luxury suite, concession and parking revenue at the stadium. Then there's the stadium name. Raymond James Financial Corp. inked a 13-year, $35m deal for the naming rights. And that is how a team which sports a 12-20 (won 12, lost 20) record over the past two years is still worth almost a billion dollars. It also might explain why the Glazers can be so indifferent to the team's fans. After all, when you are already turning a profit before the first paying customer sits down in their $59 seat, you can, as the Glazers did five years ago, sue a group of fans for defamation. The disgruntled supporters sued the team when the Bucs moved from the old 73,000-seat Tampa Stadium to the new Raymond James community stadium, with 10,000 fewer general admission seats for the "community" to sit in. Feeling this was somehow unfair, the fans got their lawyers involved and sued. Eventually the suits were settled out of court, but not before attorneys on opposing sides started throwing coffee at one another. If the family's stewardship of an NFL franchise is any remote guide, you should know these folks tend to regard fans with about the same enthusiasm as a widget. Shortly after the Glazers took over, the Bucs discontinued any relationship it had with the many ad hoc fan clubs through the Tampa Bay area, refusing to provide players for speaking engagements and the like. Today the Bucs fan clubs are organised internally by the team. What fun. If you are wondering if the Glazers will shell out money for top-notch players and personnel, the answer is yes. Will they be any good? Who knows? In one of the few instances when sons Joel and Bryan were given their heads to make a management decision pretty much on their own, the boys hired head coach Jon Gruden, who is known to spend long, long hours perfecting losing game plans. As for the future of ManU, don't think for a minute that if the Glazers could figure out a way to sell the naming rights to Old Trafford to... well, France for the right price without causing an international incident, they would do the deal in a heartbeat. After all, these are business people first and foremost. Still, Manchester United fans are going to have to get used to the family owning "their" team. They are not going anywhere and they are not particularly interested in explaining themselves to you. Over the 10 years of Bucs ownership, Malcolm Glazer has had less to say publicly than the Unabomber. Gracious, by comparison the Glazers make the head of MI6 look like a tabloid gossip monger. So let the games begin and watch your wallets. Oh and one more thing: (Memo to Malcolm Glazer and his tots) The nickname for Manchester United is "The Red Devils". There must be a hint in there somewhere to avoid confusing teams - on the off chance you even care.' |

A Branch Members Perspective ..... I am a Swansea Branch LMTB holder and have just returned from a two week family holiday in Florida. I thought SU members would be interested, but not shocked, to learn some of the thoughts our American friends have on the Glazer family, in particular, Malcolm. From our first day I noticed quite a few people wearing Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ apparel and thought it would be interesting to talk to these supporters about Glazer. On our travels we took in the beaches of Cocoa, Fort Myers and St Pete and finally ended up in Orlando, covering nearly 1200 miles. I include this only to show that the people I spoke to were from different areas, sharing differing views. I spoke to many people in all the areas we visited and not one person had a good word to say about Glazer. They spoke of a pure money orientated individual who they did not believe had any true feelings for the American Football Team that he bought. Nothing new there then! The majority conceded that, without his money, they would not have attracted the better players and would not have won the Super Bowl, but at what cost. They now feel he has lost interest in the Bucs and the team’s performances has returned to that of the pre Glazer days; they just pay more to “enjoy” these performances. Those that have followed the takeover of our club (to be fair, not all of them have), feel the same fate awaits us. One small businessman in St Petersburg was clearly switched on to the take over. When I asked the question of him he replied that Glazer was a greedy individual who always got what he wanted. He assumed I was a United supporter and said that he could not understand why Glazer wanted to buy one of the world’s greatest and most successful soccer teams at what he considered to be a premium, other than to show United supporters that he always gets what he wants. I seem to recall a similar statement by the Glazer sisters which was quoted on the Red News web site. The businessman was wholly sympathetic to our plight and wished us all the best for the future, if we have one. Despite my penchant for Budweiser, I avoided all things brewed by the Anheuser Busch company, and unfortunately ended up with an inferior brew. After a number of nights stomaching what amounted to gnats urine (I’m being polite), I decided it was impossible to carry on drinking it so I ventured into a Publix Supermarket (for those who are not familiar with the brand the equivalent of Asda or Tesco) and was confronted with a massive choice of beers. I sought the assistance of a potential beer swilling shelf stacker (he had a stomach like mine), and asked his advice for a brew of a similar standard to Budweiser. Thinking I was a mystery shopper from the UK!!!, the assistant called a ‘man mountain’ of a manager who asked if he could be of assistance. I explained my plight and he recommended an alternative. After polite conversation he asked why I did not want a Budweiser product as most Brits in Florida can’t get enough of them. I told him the story of the takeover and how I could not possibly fund Glazer’s pockets by purchasing a sponsor’s product. Just as my wife and children came round the corner, to their amazement, he thrust his hand in mine, slapped me on the shoulder and said “I appreciate your principles. You’ve just made my day. He did the same to my team a few years ago. My season ticket went up and no doubt yours will too”. These finding of course provide cold comfort. What I think they show, however, is that those people, and there are many, who are adopting the wait and see policy, should come down off the fence and fight the Glazer regime from now. The initial period may well look rosy - we may well buy one or two great players; we may well win more titles and trophies ( but we have done that without Glazer). The fact remains that we are now, allegedly, heavily in debt – allegedly, Glazers’ debt - and if he loses interest in us he could walk away, and where would that leave us – God forbid in the same plight as Leeds United – bought out by another bearded dwarf like specimen of a human being. Even if he does not lose interest, the long term future under him looks uncertain to say the least. My family and I enjoyed a great holiday in Florida, however, I came home with even more concerns for the club I have loved since I was nearly 4 year old – I am now 41. I do however feel that our club has a future. My two daughters, aged 11 and 14 (they also attend matches when tickets are available) also took up veto on sponsors products by boycotting all Pepsi and Nike products. They did this without any pressure from me and I think if all United supporters follow our small individual stance then it will become one massive stance and Glazer will be defeated. Manchester United Football Club does have a future without the Glazers. Keep up the great work. Mark,Swansea Branch MUSC |
очень любопытно из последнего письма СУ:
Many supporters (including IMUSA and Fanzines - see statement below) have been calling for a boycott of the home leg of the Champions League Qualifier as a demonstration of resistance to the Glazer takeover. Obviously many supporters will still attend and no doubt Glazer will be ordering his ticket office to pull out all the stops to avoid an embarrassment. We've already seen this happening with numerous emails going out asking people to apply before the draw has been made. However an announcement has already been made that North Stand Tier 3 (the one you don't see on the TV!) is likely to be closed for this game! On an potentially divisive issue such as this, we don't want to impose the views of our committee onto our members but we do need to respond to this issue. Therefore we took an opinion poll of our members through the su-news yahoogroup. (If you aren't already a member of the su-news email group please sign up using the link at the foot of this message). We asked members the following question. 198 (11% of subscribers at that time) responded. This is only an opinion poll of subscribers to this group and is not likely to be representative of Manchester United supporters as a whole. QUESTION: Will you: Attend the Champions League Qualifier as normal Boycott the game Boycott game but still buy a ticket (e.g. for loyalty pot qualification) which you don't sell on Other (e.g. don't usually attend games) RESPONSES: Choices Votes % Attend the Champions League Qualifier as normal 12% Boycott the game 57% Boycott game but still buy a ticket (e.g. for loyalty pot qualification) which you don't sell on 8% Other (e.g. don't usually attend games) 21% So, if strip out the 21% of "Others" who said they would not normally have been attending the match anyway then 16% will attend as normal while 73% will boycott completely with a further 11% who will not attend but will purchase a ticket (for loyalty ballot etc) and will not sell it on. This means a total of 84% of the members who responded said they would not attend the European Champions League Qualifier home leg. We recognise this is a personal decision for members. (For information, none of our committee members have said they will be attending this game.) |

"The Glazer takeover only puts me off Manchester United if it affects the players," said Hong Kong-born fan Henry Chien, 32. "If it doesn't affect the football of Manchester United I don't give a damn about the business side." One expatriate sports promoter and "huge" United supporter said: "Asian fans are big fans but they follow the team, not the club. They will follow the stars but they seem more detached from it. They're watching it in bars whereas people in England are going to the game and paying Ј50 a week." |

the Workers' Stadium was not even half full at kick-off must have been a worry to watching director Bryan Glazer, whose father has invested Ј790million in the club on the basis of their worldwide support. The Chinese public are starting to get more discerning in their attitude to visiting teams and there is clearly plenty of work for the Glazers and chief executive David Gill to do if the Red Devils are to make the kind of money the new owner thinks they are capable of.' |

about the lack of fans in China or losing his job because the financial predictions already may be falling short? "Clearly, Tuesday night's crowd was disappointing. There are various factors behind that, which will need to be investigated. But we were very pleased with the crowd in Hong Kong and we are confident there will be good crowds for our final two matches. What is happening on this tour does not lead us to the conclusion popularity in us is waning." ну понеслась. сначала левая дешовая пиар кампания с сизон тикетами, а теперь пионеров из соседних школ будут насильно на стадион загонять. ну ну ;) |
здравствуйте, товарищ сталин ...
5 July 2005 Mr Nick Towle Chairman Shareholders United Dear Nick, FANS' FORUM As you know, Manchester United is now wholly owned by Red Football and has been de-listed from the London Stock Exchange. As we consider the way the company will operate in the future, one of the areas under discussion has been the Fans' Forum and it is in my capacity as Chairman that I write. Shareholders United, as a representative body of fans who have purchased shares in Manchester United PLC, has historically had a guaranteed seat on the Forum. However, as a result of the new structure of the company, SU clearly has no legitimacy in representing such a block of people - since no external shareholders exist. The purpose of this letter is therefore to inform you that SU's seat on the Forum will, from the start of the 2005/06 season, be given to a representative of fans in Manchester, Salford or Trafford, to guarantee the Forum a local dimension -something that is not currently written into its constitution. This member will be selected through the normal process and, of course, members of SU are welcome to stand for this position. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Shareholders United for its contribution to the Forum since its inception. Yours sincerely, David Gill CHIEF EXECUTIVE |

It would seem the ticket office are debiting money for tickets when they've been told not to... one lad has been debited for the CL qualifier even though he wrote to the club to cancel his membership of the auto cup ticket scheme. They're now telling him they didn't receive the letter and he can't have a refund. IMUSA wants to find out if this is an isolated incident or part of another series of "genuine mistakes" by the ticket office in the vein of the One United membership unwanted debits. If it happens to you please email the details to comms@imusa.org - cheers. |

SHOULD PEACE-LOVING FANS wearing 'Glazer Out' t-shirts be allowed to watch games at Old Trafford? Yes, says a United press officer: 'there's no club policy on this'. 'No chance,' say the stewards. 'I was stopped three times,' says fan Shane Bluck. 'Once outside the ground - they told me to cover my shirt up. Then inside when I put it back on - sitting in row AA behind the goal - I was approached by two stewards and told to take it off,
or leave the ground... One told me 'you can't wear that in front of the cameras'. 'We have no record of this incident,' say United. 'It never happened...' пидар бородатый |
'Times are obviously hard under the Glazers. Manchester United's own television station, MUTV did not travel on the official club trip when the team played in Budapest last week. Rather then pay the Ј900 per person, they sent their man Steve Bower, Paddy Crerand and the cameraman to Hungary on cheaper flights.'
