я не думаю, что это был продакт плейсмент, т.к. слишком слабый промоушен со стороны МЮ ...

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: ROLAND EMMERICH

As Hollywood blockbusters go, The Day After Tomorrow is up there with the very best of them.

Stunning special effects including giant tidal waves, multiple tornadoes and snowstorms which engulf Los Angeles and New York are simply mind blowing. But what will really interest Reds fans is why director Roland Emmerich decided to include numerous references to United in amongst the thrilling scenes of devastation and mayhem caused by global warming.

Ryan Giggs and Ruud van Nistelrooy play prominent roles during the footage of the team which sees United take on Boca Juniors at Old Trafford from August 2002 - although in the movie we are told the team are up against Celtic in the Champions League!

In another scene, which takes place just as the eye of the storm is about to hit the United Kingdom, Professor Terry Rapson (Ian Holm) enjoys one last toast with his two colleagues - one of whom chooses to salute United in the last moments of his life.

German-born Emmerich admits it was his co-writer, Jeffrey Nachmanoff, who first came up with the idea to feature the Reds. But the critically acclaimed director hopes sport will soon begin to play a more prominent role in Hollywood. In fact, he may even shoot a football film himself!

"Jeffrey wrote the references to United in his first script," recalls Emmerich, 49, who supports German club VfB Stuttgart.

"I laughed out loud when I read it and it was never ever changed. Jeffrey grew up in England so he knows how important soccer is over there and along with Real Madrid, United are the most famous team in the world.

"Soccer is becoming more and more popular in the United States especially with kids, and I think every kid who plays soccer in America loves Manchester United. There was never any question we were going to use any other team in the movie and it got a big chuckle at some of the test screenings!

"I think sport in general affects what people see in movies," he adds. "I always try to explain to people in Hollywood that we have to make movies more like sport because, in sport, everything can happen and it's so much better than movies in some ways. A friend of mine has just finished a soccer movie in Germany about the national team winning the World Cup, so maybe one day I will do one too!"

The idea for The Day After Tomorrow arose after Emmerich came across the book, The Coming Global Superstorm, written by scientists Art Bell and Whitley Strieber.

"I thought it must be pure science fiction," admits Emmerich. "But when I checked it out I found a lot of magazine articles that actually supported the theory behind the book which was incredible. That's when I decided to acquire the rights of the book and everything went from there."

Emmerich is no stranger to all-action blockbusters having brought us UFOs and aliens in Independence Day and a giant lizard in Godzilla. His flair for creating the spectacular remains unmatched but, as the man himself admits, controlling the weather proved an altogether different challenge.

"It was like a big heroic fight for about thirteen months or so," jokes Emmerich who co-wrote, produced and directed the movie.

"Weather is much more complicated because trying to create a natural phenomenon in a computer is a tricky thing to do. We started with one visual effects company and ended up with twelve which was incredible.

"But we had to set the bar very high because we knew that if the effects did not look real or the audience did not buy into them, then they would not buy into the whole movie. So it was very important that they looked the way they turned out," he adds.

вчера по первому после футбола показали шикарную комедию про тренера сборной Англии, смотрел кто-нибудь?

Я смотрел, правда шикарной я бы её не назвал. А если это и пародия на кого то то на какого нибудь тренера первого или из какого он там дивизиона. Кстати когда они тренера выбирали был вариант Шотландца имеющего много всяких трофеев( это уже явно про Ферги было) еще порадовало то что тренер болела МЮ
