posted on the SU Forum
A Branch Members Perspective ..... I am a Swansea Branch LMTB holder and have just returned from a two week family holiday in Florida. I thought SU members would be interested, but not shocked, to learn some of the thoughts our American friends have on the Glazer family, in particular, Malcolm. From our first day I noticed quite a few people wearing Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ apparel and thought it would be interesting to talk to these supporters about Glazer. On our travels we took in the beaches of Cocoa, Fort Myers and St Pete and finally ended up in Orlando, covering nearly 1200 miles. I include this only to show that the people I spoke to were from different areas, sharing differing views. I spoke to many people in all the areas we visited and not one person had a good word to say about Glazer. They spoke of a pure money orientated individual who they did not believe had any true feelings for the American Football Team that he bought. Nothing new there then! The majority conceded that, without his money, they would not have attracted the better players and would not have won the Super Bowl, but at what cost. They now feel he has lost interest in the Bucs and the team’s performances has returned to that of the pre Glazer days; they just pay more to “enjoy” these performances. Those that have followed the takeover of our club (to be fair, not all of them have), feel the same fate awaits us. One small businessman in St Petersburg was clearly switched on to the take over. When I asked the question of him he replied that Glazer was a greedy individual who always got what he wanted. He assumed I was a United supporter and said that he could not understand why Glazer wanted to buy one of the world’s greatest and most successful soccer teams at what he considered to be a premium, other than to show United supporters that he always gets what he wants. I seem to recall a similar statement by the Glazer sisters which was quoted on the Red News web site. The businessman was wholly sympathetic to our plight and wished us all the best for the future, if we have one. Despite my penchant for Budweiser, I avoided all things brewed by the Anheuser Busch company, and unfortunately ended up with an inferior brew. After a number of nights stomaching what amounted to gnats urine (I’m being polite), I decided it was impossible to carry on drinking it so I ventured into a Publix Supermarket (for those who are not familiar with the brand the equivalent of Asda or Tesco) and was confronted with a massive choice of beers. I sought the assistance of a potential beer swilling shelf stacker (he had a stomach like mine), and asked his advice for a brew of a similar standard to Budweiser. Thinking I was a mystery shopper from the UK!!!, the assistant called a ‘man mountain’ of a manager who asked if he could be of assistance. I explained my plight and he recommended an alternative. After polite conversation he asked why I did not want a Budweiser product as most Brits in Florida can’t get enough of them. I told him the story of the takeover and how I could not possibly fund Glazer’s pockets by purchasing a sponsor’s product. Just as my wife and children came round the corner, to their amazement, he thrust his hand in mine, slapped me on the shoulder and said “I appreciate your principles. You’ve just made my day. He did the same to my team a few years ago. My season ticket went up and no doubt yours will too”. These finding of course provide cold comfort. What I think they show, however, is that those people, and there are many, who are adopting the wait and see policy, should come down off the fence and fight the Glazer regime from now. The initial period may well look rosy - we may well buy one or two great players; we may well win more titles and trophies ( but we have done that without Glazer). The fact remains that we are now, allegedly, heavily in debt – allegedly, Glazers’ debt - and if he loses interest in us he could walk away, and where would that leave us – God forbid in the same plight as Leeds United – bought out by another bearded dwarf like specimen of a human being. Even if he does not lose interest, the long term future under him looks uncertain to say the least. My family and I enjoyed a great holiday in Florida, however, I came home with even more concerns for the club I have loved since I was nearly 4 year old – I am now 41. I do however feel that our club has a future. My two daughters, aged 11 and 14 (they also attend matches when tickets are available) also took up veto on sponsors products by boycotting all Pepsi and Nike products. They did this without any pressure from me and I think if all United supporters follow our small individual stance then it will become one massive stance and Glazer will be defeated. Manchester United Football Club does have a future without the Glazers. Keep up the great work. Mark,Swansea Branch MUSC |

очень любопытно из последнего письма СУ:
Many supporters (including IMUSA and Fanzines - see statement below) have been calling for a boycott of the home leg of the Champions League Qualifier as a demonstration of resistance to the Glazer takeover. Obviously many supporters will still attend and no doubt Glazer will be ordering his ticket office to pull out all the stops to avoid an embarrassment. We've already seen this happening with numerous emails going out asking people to apply before the draw has been made. However an announcement has already been made that North Stand Tier 3 (the one you don't see on the TV!) is likely to be closed for this game! On an potentially divisive issue such as this, we don't want to impose the views of our committee onto our members but we do need to respond to this issue. Therefore we took an opinion poll of our members through the su-news yahoogroup. (If you aren't already a member of the su-news email group please sign up using the link at the foot of this message). We asked members the following question. 198 (11% of subscribers at that time) responded. This is only an opinion poll of subscribers to this group and is not likely to be representative of Manchester United supporters as a whole. QUESTION: Will you: Attend the Champions League Qualifier as normal Boycott the game Boycott game but still buy a ticket (e.g. for loyalty pot qualification) which you don't sell on Other (e.g. don't usually attend games) RESPONSES: Choices Votes % Attend the Champions League Qualifier as normal 12% Boycott the game 57% Boycott game but still buy a ticket (e.g. for loyalty pot qualification) which you don't sell on 8% Other (e.g. don't usually attend games) 21% So, if strip out the 21% of "Others" who said they would not normally have been attending the match anyway then 16% will attend as normal while 73% will boycott completely with a further 11% who will not attend but will purchase a ticket (for loyalty ballot etc) and will not sell it on. This means a total of 84% of the members who responded said they would not attend the European Champions League Qualifier home leg. We recognise this is a personal decision for members. (For information, none of our committee members have said they will be attending this game.) |

азиатские "фанаты" зажигают:
"The Glazer takeover only puts me off Manchester United if it affects the players," said Hong Kong-born fan Henry Chien, 32. "If it doesn't affect the football of Manchester United I don't give a damn about the business side." One expatriate sports promoter and "huge" United supporter said: "Asian fans are big fans but they follow the team, not the club. They will follow the stars but they seem more detached from it. They're watching it in bars whereas people in England are going to the game and paying Ј50 a week." |

фак офф глейзер 8)
the Workers' Stadium was not even half full at kick-off must have been a worry to watching director Bryan Glazer, whose father has invested Ј790million in the club on the basis of their worldwide support. The Chinese public are starting to get more discerning in their attitude to visiting teams and there is clearly plenty of work for the Glazers and chief executive David Gill to do if the Red Devils are to make the kind of money the new owner thinks they are capable of.' |
